1. OUTLOOK BLACKLISTING SERVER IP'S
Your Outlook mail is not arriving. How important is it to you to receive your mail from friends and/or customers? Unfortunately, if you rely on any of the following email providers: Outlook, Live, MSN, you will miss out on a lot of emails over time. Strange you will say, because these are pretty much the best-known names out there for e-mail addresses. That's exactly where things go wrong, this network is so big that they think they can afford things that other companies don't.
The providers mentioned above all belong to the Microsoft network. Microsoft thinks it would do well to declare themselves the spam police, and I assume there is good intention beyond the obvious desire for power they have, but in my opinion, they do more harm than good with it.
At the slightest and sometimes completely unjustified, thousands of IP addresses are blocked every day by alleged spam mails that are sent, the result is: Outlook not receiving emails. Their policy is not that emails end up in your spam box, they just don't arrive at all. This wouldn't be a problem if it's really just spam, but that's far from the truth and if your friend or customer sends you an email from a server blocked by the Microsoft network, you simply won't get it.
The person who sends the mail does get a bounce mail from Microsoft indicating that the mail has been blocked, but many people do not understand this and just think that their mail has been sent. That way, the mail will not be sent again, and people will wonder why you don't answer.
1.1. Unlock IP again
So all in all very annoying. I must say that Microsoft is good to talk to about getting things back in order through correspondence by mail and their special form for this. The problem, however, is that by the time one discovers such a problem, it usually takes several days, and then usually another 2 days before the server IP is removed from the blacklists again.
Use other mail providers or mail at your own server
To avoid Outlook problems, it is therefore best to use other well-known companies such as Yahoo and to a certain extent Google are also okay. Follow the links if you are not receicing mails from those email providers. However, it is by far the best to use the email addresses of your own domain in case you have a website and therefore also a hosting.
It is never good to give big companies too much power, because sooner or later this is always going to be abused as is the case here. As you may know, these are exactly the companies that pass all your data on to governments and the highest bidder, but that might be a topic for another article.
2. RESTART OUTLOOK
Apart from the above mentioned corruption, Outlook can have just normal problems which is certainly the case if you don't receive any mail at all. Let's start with the most simple fix. Restarting Outlook. Outlook (or any application) can sometimes hang up or stop working completely. Outlook can be closed and reopened to resolve any issues that may prevent you from receiving emails.
3. INTERNET ISSUES
You should check your internet connection. You may see the Outlook status bar showing Disconnected, Working Offline, and Trying to Connect. This indicates that Outlook is either offline or has some connectivity issues.
4. OUTLOOK SET TO OFFLINE
Make sure to check offline settings. If you experience problems with a Mac, and you have disabled Work Offline, you might need to log into your email account and modify your settings.
5. CHECK OTHER DEVICES
Take a look at your other devices. You might have saved the message to another device like a phone, tablet or computer at work. Outlook's POP email settings might not allow you to save a copy og the mail on its server. This could mean that your missing email is on the same device from which it was first received.
6. CHECK OTHER FOLDERS
You may also want to check other Outlook folders for any messages. You may not see any new messages in your Inbox. These messages could be going to the Junk Email Folder. Outlook.com users may have these messages in the "Other" section.
7. NEW OUTLOOK PROFILE
Creating a new Outlook Profile. Outlook uses what is called a profile for information about the email accounts that you have set up. It also stores the configuration settings that you choose to determine where your messages will be delivered. Outlook profiles that are corrupt can cause receiving emails to stop working for you.
8. EMAIL RULES
Make sure you review your Outlook email rules. You may have created rules that could cause your emails to be routed from your Inbox and forwarded to another account or got deleted.
9. DELETE OUTLOOK CACHE
Clear Outlook's cache. Sometimes, emails can get stuck in Outlook's incoming processing. Outlook sometimes stores these emails within a hidden ItemProcSearch directory. The missing email can be found by clearing the cache.
